How To Wake Up Feeling Motivated Every Single Morning

Lets face it, feeling motivated is perhaps one of the most difficult things you could ever do. If it were so easy, everyone would be making progress and achieving their goals they’ve set out to achieve.


Even worse is when we read countless articles from around the web that make it seem straightforward. As a result, it often becomes frustrating due to it seeming easy to apply on paper. It does little to improve your self-esteem and confidence, especially when you face difficulties in applying the advice you know and understand so well.


But all of this should feel encouraging, because one of the main things I personally found with regards to motivation is that it takes very little of it when you are in the right mindsetIt seems very confusing at first but it makes sense when understood. Have you ever felt like you needed motivation when you're feeling good and in your "zone"?


Here are 8 really simple and achievable strategies to make you feel like a winner every morning:



8 TIPS TO MAKE YOU FEEL MOTIVATED IN THE MORNINGS


#1 STRETCH


Stretching first thing in the morning can relieve any tension or pain from sleeping the night before. It also helps increase your blood flow and prepares your body for the day ahead. Stretching before bed relaxes your muscles and helps prevent you from waking up with more pain.


It's ok if you have no experience in yoga before, here are 5 simple yoga stretches you can do in the comfort of your very own bed:


1) Seated forward fold


Sit and straighten your legs out in front of you, grounding your thighs into the bed. Hinge at the hips to elongate your torso over your thighs. Grab hold of the outer edges of your feet.


Pro tip: If your hamstrings are tight, grab a strap and loop it behind your feet. Use the leverage to bring your torso closer to your thighs.


2) Child's pose


Next we're going to go into Child's pose. Slowly fold and tuck your legs back. Inhale and exhale a few times while in this position.


This is a great move that helps with relieving tension on the spine.


3) Tabletop pose


Place your palms and knees on the bed firmly. Make sure your back is straight in a horizontal position.


4) Cat pose


As you exhale, round your spine toward the ceiling, making sure to keep your shoulders and knees in position. Release your head toward the floor, but don't force your chin to your chest. Inhale, coming back to neutral "tabletop" position on your hands and knees.


5) Cow pose


For the final pose, as you inhale, lift your sitting bone and chest toward the ceiling, allowing your belly to sink toward the floor. Lift your head to look straight forward. Exhale, coming back to neutral "tabletop" position on your hands and knees.

#2 SPLASH YOUR FACE WITH COLD WATER


A quick way to wake up is to splash cold water on your face. If you’re someone who struggles waking up in the morning, this is a quick and easy fix.


As soon as you get out of bed, go to the bathroom and splash cold water on your face a few times. Once you’ve done that, you’ll feel no need to go back to bed and you can immediately transition into the rest of your morning ritual.


#3 DRINK WATER


Claim : Drinking water upon waking improves mental performance

Based on scientific research, dehydration is strongly linked to decreased mental performance, meaning that completing tasks, such as memorizing or learning new things, becomes more difficult. Mild dehydration corresponding to 1–2% of body weight can negatively affect alertness, concentration, short-term memory, and physical performance.

Hence, some argue that if you want to stay on top of your game, you should drink at least one glass of water upon waking.

However, the effects of mild dehydration can be reversed by reintroducing fluids, and no evidence limits the benefits of rehydration to the early morning (5Trusted Source).


#4 TURN UP THE MUSIC


Shake off sluggishness and get motivated for the day ahead with 10 energizing songs that will kickstart your a.m. workout routine


Scientific studies prove that music can improve your motivation. Music can cause the brain to release dopamine, a chemical which works to regulate motivation and goal-oriented behaviour.


Some of my favourite artists to wake up to are Pharrell, Maroon 5, and Kelly Clarkson. What about you?


#5 DRESS UP WITH CLOTHES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD


There's something about the perfect outfit that can kind of make or break your day. That's because when you're feeling comfy and lookin' good, you project confidence, and that's a major motivator. Build a wardrobe that expresses your style — one that feels right — and you'll actually look forward to getting dressed in the morning.


#6 EAT FOR FUEL


Some people fancy a heavy breakfast, nothing wrong with that. Personally I like a light breakfast. A slice of wholemeal bread with handmade fruit spread by my very own small business - Cosy Cookhouse plus a cup of tea, is enough to fuel me up in the mornings. Anything more than this, and I end up feeling sluggish, so know what works for you and stick to it consistently.


When I say something good, I don't mean a half rotten banana, or a quick bowl of stale cereal. I'm talking about smoothies, pancakes, omelettes — the things that make mornings so great. Not only will a healthy breakfast wake you up and supply tons of energy, but it can be quite the reason to start the day.


#7 DOES SMALL WINS OR ONE BIG WIN PUMP YOU UP?


One very good way to feel motivated in the morning is to feel like you've successfully achieved something fairly quickly after waking up.


For some, that can be small wins such as paying off bills or replying emails, while for others, it can be tackling one big project that they feel resistant toward so that they know once it's done, all other tasks are easy peasy. Maybe something such as writing one whole chapter in a book or studying for an upcoming exam.


So know what works for you and make sure that's the first thing you tick off your to-do list for the day.




It can be easy to get overwhelmed when your goals are things like "get a new job" or " backpack around Europe." That's because these major things take a lot of planning and forethought, and can't happen in a day. My point is, don't let overwhelm ruin your motivation. Instead, set some small, attainable goals for the day that will move you in the right direction. As Jeff Olson said on Greatist.com, "Your little choices add up to big results."


#8 A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP


First things first, you can't feel motivated for anything if you are too tired to move. So start off by getting a good night's rest. To do this, the general rule of thumb, according to Dr. Michael J. Breus for the Huffington Post, is to go to bed seven and a half hours before you need to wake up. "Count back five 90-minute cycles or 7.5 hours. Each sleep cycle on average is 90 minutes long and the average person has five of them per night," Breus said. That should be just the amount of sleep you need to be ready to start the day.


This will ensure you've got enough of rest and wake up rejuvenated.
