How to Trust Yourself Again: Why Self-Trust Is a Skill You Can Learn at Any Stage of Your Career

𝘕𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 — they let you believe you either have it or you don't. So you spend years waiting to feel sure enough, ready enough, certain enough. And the waiting becomes the habit.

Here's what I've come to understand: 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲.

Every time you make a decision and honour it, you are depositing into a trust account with yourself. Every time you say you will do something and you do it — even something small — your nervous system learns that you are someone who can be relied on.

𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦.

𝘉𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶.

This matters enormously in your career. Because 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺. It is a self-trust problem. The job application not submitted. The conversation not had. The idea not pitched.

𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯'𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺. 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹.

Like everything else, it gets stronger the more you use it. Start today. Start small.

And notice what shifts when you finally show up for yourself the way you have always shown up for everyone else.
