4 Steps To Feel Gratitude When It's Hard To Feel Grateful

Some weeks back, I STRUGGLED with feeling #GRATITUDE😶 Even as I say this, I find it totally crazy. Does this mean one is an ungrateful, mean person if we struggle to feel gratitude?


I’ve been a pretty grateful person since a very young age, for all the little #blessings in my life - especially for my life, since I nearly lost it several times due to an abusive childhood.


After much deep self-reflection, here are the 4 steps that helped me to feel gratitude again:


1 Take time for #selfcare
We can’t feel give or show gratitude when we’re not feeling good about ourselves


2 Identify the mental and/or physical roadblocks
How you approach each day and your ability to feel gratitude can be impacted by many different factors, including:
* amount and quality of sleep
* employment stress
* poor diet
* interpersonal conflict
* relationship challenges
* physical illness
* financial constraints
* #mentalhealth conditions


Identify which of these you need to work on and improve.


3 Make gratitude a habit
Reaping the rewards of practising gratitude, just like with exercise, comes with regular effort. 


Keep a daily gratitude list for 2 weeks. Name 3 things you are grateful for in each day and elaborate on what you’re grateful for in at least 1 sentence. If you don't feel better, the habit may require more weeks (roughly 6) to feel an improvement.


4 Feel genuine gratitude
Feeling genuine gratitude is about not just saying “thanks” for the sake of it, but actually taking a moment to acknowledge what you’re thankful for and feel gratitude in your heart.

5 Steps To Be CONSISTENT And Get Things Done All The Time

One of the most obvious factors that separate the successful and the unsuccessful is the power of #consistency. Successful people can produce extraordinary results because they choose to follow their plans and take the necessary action almost every day, with or without motivation.

Despite life's ups and downs, we should all strive for consistency in all areas of our lives. With consistency, we will have an easier time maintaining relationships with our family members and friends, meeting our goals, and performing well in school or at work.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who struggle with being consistent in life due to various internal and external factors around them. But, that doesn't have to be you.

Why Perspective Can Make Or Break You

#PERSPECTIVE is everything. Do you agree? The circumstances in which we’re born in impacts us to a certain extent, but for the bulk of how we build our lives, boils down to perspective and our beliefs in what is achievable or not.


It is easy to blame life, our family, our financial background, our level of education, and every other thing in our lives. Because when we blame others, we mentally free ourselves from taking responsibility to change anything.
It isn’t our fault - right?


But the thing about blaming is, it makes us #POWERLESS.


It means people and things around us needs to CHANGE in order for us to SUCCEED.


Imagine for a moment, how POWERFUL you would feel if you could take hold of your own life.


Whenever I feel things aren’t going in my favour, here’s what helps me:


Firstly, do a few rounds of deep BREATHING to calm my mind.


Identify what I can or CAN’T change (and making the best of whatever resources I have at the moment!), then discipline my mind to focus on the things that ARE within my power to change.


Lastly, plan out actionable steps to CHANGE and/or IMPROVE my situation.


Sure, life’s a pain at times and things would be much easier if problems don’t exist. But remember - we won’t be the strong, wise, and resilient person that we are today without them.

Stop Being Easily INFLUENCED By Others | 3 Hacks That Will Change Your Life

Mom was right when she said, “Be careful who you surround yourself with.” Although those #wordsofwisdom are usually handed out during adolescence, there's evidence that suggests we need to follow that advice into adulthood. Apparently, we’re still easily influenced by those around us.


We’d like to believe that each choice we make is based upon our independent assessment and best judgment. But, unfortunately, that’s not always the case.
#Research shows that even as adults we’re prone to copying the #bodylanguage of a person we’re speaking with. Some #studies have concluded we experience the same emotions as the people around us and that we also mimic other people’s product choices.


Not only that, being easily swayed means you're more inclined to bend to the will and wishes of others, often sacrificing what you want. Not only is that no fun at all, routinely falling in line behind other people will also destroy your #confidence.

Happiness Happens When We Know When To Appreciate Life For What It Is

Knowing when to continue FIGHTING for what you want vs when to #LETGO and let live is tough, don’t you think?


One might think a person who “lets things be” might be simply lazy or not #determined enough.


Though it can be really tricky to know when to continue pursuing a certain #goal and when to let go, here are some questions I reflect on that helps me to make a clearer, objective decision in such moments:


1 Have I been #makingprogress?


2 Have my #priorities in life changed?


3 Has there been a change in circumstances?
Eg: Maybe you experienced a #jobloss or health issue


4 Now that I’ve started working on the goal, is it as valuable or meaningful as I once thought?


5 In pursuing my goal, is it negatively impacting my #wellbeing?


In order to minimise or prevent feeling guilt or regret down the line, it’s important to take some time to assess any goal you wish to pursue or give up both objectively and fairly.

3 Steps To Speak Up When It Matters

SPEAKING UP is hard to do😶 Would you #speakup if you saw something ethically questionable? Run up against offensive speech? Disagree with an opinion that’s all too quickly become consensus?

While we’d all like to think we'd say something in these situations, but #research suggests that most people tend to NOT act, and then rationalize their #inaction.
But we’re not really doing our job — as a diligent employee, #compassionate colleague, or thoughtful #leader — if we don’t speak up when it matters.

So what can we do?

First, realize how psychologically difficult — and worthwhile — speaking up can be.
Research on “#realisticoptimism” shows that when people set out to do difficult, personally meaningful things, they’re more likely to follow through if they expect that the task will be challenging. In speaking up, as in life, one must appreciate the difference between BELIEVING you will #succeed and ASSUMING that you will do so easily.

Second, try to lessen the social threat that speaking up creates.
Social motivation comes in 5 flavors: #Status, certainty, #autonomy, relatedness, and #fairness.

When you speak up to someone, any one of these 5 buttons might be pushed, but most commonly it’s STATUS, especially when you’re communicating up the chain of command.

Make it clear that you’re not attributing ill will to the person or people you might be speaking about. Show that you are providing feedback on impact, without making any assumptions about intent.

Third, #makeaplan.
Though you won’t be able to predict the specifics of every situation, creating a plan for how to speak up can significantly increase the likelihood that you do so when the moment presents itself.

It Isn't Work That Causes Stress, It's The Work Environment

Do you agree? 🤫 In many companies, STRESS and anxiety, which can lead to BURNOUT, stem from factors like office politics, bickering, gossip and jealousy.

This may be exacerbated by a boss that is busy playing his own political games to ensure his career longevity, at times breaking rules he set, and leaving his subordinates to clean up the mess. 
Then there are supervisors who, instead of working themselves out of their jobs to give subordinates a chance to move up, feel threatened by good performers and drive them out of the organisation.

So burnout is not the product of stressful work. Rather, the stress arises from an unconducive, UNSUPPORTIVE, or even hostile, environment.

Employees are more likely to stay if they are happy, do not feel threatened and value the organisation as a place worth working in, where they can grow and thrive.
