Sometimes all someone really wants, is just to be APPRECIATED for the effort and the little things that they do🌻
As Maya Angelou once aptly said — “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This week I took time to check in with a few friends to see how they are doing, I gave away things to the poor, and I helped my colleagues to work through some really stressful client cases. These may sound like 'little' things, but it is exactly these little things that have helped me to fill my own cup from within and to feel like I AM making a positive impact in this world in my own little way. This is something no school would ever teach us, only through life experiences do we come to the realisation that it is better to have a few TRUE friends who will be there for you no matter what, rather than to have a bunch of fake ones.
Don’t ever be afraid of cutting ties with friends who aren’t there for you when you need a helping hand, or only uses you when it suits them. A few weeks back as I stood on a beach, looking out to the sea, I felt that I was EXACTLY where I should be🪷 I felt at peace, happy, and my heart filled with #gratitude. But what many people around me didn’t know, was that I was in a pretty dark spot earlier this year. I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel in that moment… I was retrenched from my job, facing relationship problems, health problems, and I didn’t feel like there was anyone around me whom I could really turn to to talk about the challenges I was facing. Everything just came all at the same time. It was overwhelming to say the least. But with God’s grace, persistence to not give up on myself or on life, everything started to work itself out. One by one. So remind yourself that even if NOTHING makes sense or seems to go right at the moment, a brighter tomorrow is coming your way, just around the corner. Whether that be a goal you’re working toward, a relationship, or a career you’ve built - gently remind yourself that in the end, there is no real right or wrong in this life because life is what YOU make it to be.
Don’t compare yourself to what someone else did in their life. Everyone’s #lifeexperiences, tolerance level of emotional pain, perspective of things, needs, and goals in life are different. How is it then fair to compare yourself to others? I believe if we give OUR best in all that we set out to do, and if we know deep in our heart that we’ve given OUR best, but somehow things didn’t work out as how we’d hoped for, know that there is no shame in letting go and moving on toward a #newpath, a #newgoal. Though staying in our #comfortzone can feel safe, but how would we fully know what we’re capable of ACHIEVING, feeling, and experiencing if we don’t have the courage to take some risk every now and then for goals that matter to us?
Perhaps it is because quite often, when we think of ‘risk’, we tend to think of what we could potentially LOSE. But what if we start associating that word with what we could also potentially GAIN? What if we did proper research and planning to take #calculatedrisks and to minimise, even potentially avoid having losses? Realistically speaking, #changeistheonlyconstant. So though we might plan a lot and hope for the best, sometimes - s*** happens. Things beyond our control can happen. But even if and when that happens, have courage to know that you WILL have the wisdom and ability to learn, adapt, and overcome any obstacle that comes your way. Does any of these BURNOUT signs sound familiar to you? Heavy WORKLOADS and deadline PRESSURES are a fact of managerial life. Who doesn’t feel #overwhelmed or stretched thin sometimes? But when relentless #workstress pushes you into the debilitating state we call #burnout, it is a serious problem, affecting not just your own performance and #wellbeing, both on the job and off, but also that of your team and your organization.
Here are 3 ways that helps me to prevent burnout: 🌻1 #Prioritizeselfcare It’s essential to replenish your physical and #emotionalenergy, along with your capacity to #focus, by prioritizing good #sleephabits, nutrition, #exercise, social connection, and practices that promote #equanimity and well-being, like #meditating, #journaling, and enjoying nature. If you’re having troubling squeezing such activities into your packed schedule, give yourself a week to assess exactly how you’re spending your time. 🌻2 #Shiftyourperspective You must take a close look at your #mindset and #assumptions. What aspects of your situation are truly fixed, and which can you change? Altering your perspective can buffer the negative impact of even the inflexible aspects. If #exhaustion is a key problem, ask yourself which tasks—including critical ones—you could #delegate to free up meaningful time and #energy for other important work. Are there ways to reshape your job in order to gain more control or to focus on the most #fulfilling tasks? 🌻3 Reduce exposure to job #stressors This involves resetting the #expectations of colleagues, clients, and even family members for what and how much you’re willing to take on, as well as ground rules for working together. You may get #pushback. But #doubters must know that you’re making these changes to improve your long-term #productivity and protect your #health.
