Ways To Appreciate What You Have Right Now

Why is it so hard to APPRECIATE what we have? We always seem to be chasing the next BIG thing.

The funny thing is that, for the most part at least, everything in our lives was once just a wish. We wanted that car we drive today so badly just a few years ago. The people or situations in our lives were once just a wish. The house we live in was once just a goal.

So why is it that, TODAY, we can’t appreciate all of those things? How come we’re not satisfied with the status quo?

The food that we eat goes unappreciated until we can’t afford to buy a meal. Similarly, the roof over our heads is unappreciated until we can’t afford to have it and are effectively homeless. The clothes on our backs are similarly unappreciated. The point? We need to learn how to appreciate what we have right now because it can be gone in an instant.

Don't you find it odd why the moment something not so pleasant happens, we tend to label the day as "bad"?

Perhaps it's because of how our brains are wired to save more negative moments than positive ones (Thanks brain 🙄)

To anyone reading this–if you're having a bad moment, please don't be in despair.

Know that you aren't alone. EVERYONE has encountered some form of an unpleasant moment in one way or another. I definitely have–more than I can count.

What helps me regain a sense of calm and inner strength in these moments, is by reminding myself of all the people and moments I'm thankful for🙏
This strategy has never failed me.

I can recall many situations in my younger teenage days when I did things I DIDN'T really want to do to comfort or please others. To be honest, it wasn’t always because I wanted to make everyone happy, it was because I wanted people to like me.

I expected them to give me the things I wasn’t giving myself: LOVE, CARE, and ATTENTION.
