How do you know when you’re dealing with a truly #TOXIC person, as opposed to a merely problematic one?
And if you are dealing with a toxic person, how do you distance yourself before it’s too late? It goes without saying that toxic people of all stripes are a problem. They can drain your mental and emotional resources, hijack your sense of self, infect your mood and outlook on life, create stress and unhappiness, make you doubt your feelings and experiences, slow or sabotage your progress, and pull you away from healthy, empowering, uplifting relationships. #Toxicrelationships are also hard on your body. In fact, studies have shown that people in adverse close relationships have a greater risk of heart disease. That’s why it’s crucial to consciously IDENTIFY toxic people in your life and, once you do, decide how to manage your contact with them or if necessary, cut them out of your life completely. If you're unsure when it is OKAY to cut toxic people out in your life, check out this video now. Truly, Trish ➳ 💙 Want to make a successful CAREER CHANGE? Losing control and facing massive #UNCERTAINTY in life makes me lose my nerves. Can you relate?
As resilient as I am, no amount of #positivethinking really helps me to feel sane or safe in such moments. What helps though, are the following exercises (and I hope it does the same for you too): 💭1 Take time to process and WRITE DOWN your thoughts and fears Ask yourself: Why am I feeling the way that I do? How does the sudden change impact my life - both negatively AND maybe even positively? ✏️2 Make a #GAMEPLAN with backup plans #Thoughts can become #overwhelming when we’re in a tense mode. To help get a clearer overview of our next best steps to #moveforward, penning down a game plan can help tremendously to bring CLARITY to the entire situation that we’re in, thereby helping us to feel more at ease, and maybe even coming to the realisation that where there is a will, there’s always a way. 💪3 Try to embrace uncertainty as a CHALLENGE, as opposed to just a looming threat As Barney Stinson from HIMYM likes to say, “#Challengeaccepted!” 😉 Psychological research shows that when you view a situation as a challenge, you’re combining recognition of the problem that needs to be addressed with #faith that you CAN rise to the occasion and deal with it successfully. Doing this can mobilise one’s positive self-regard and sense of potency. Uncertainty is an avoidable part of #life. The goal is not to get rid of it but to learn how to handle and embrace it. Use it to fuel your creativity, explore new avenues in your life, and to make new connections you otherwise wouldn’t have made if nothing ever changed in your life. #TRUSTYOURSELF that with each step you take, you will be able to tackle any obstacle that comes your way🌻 Always believing in you, Trish ➳ 💙 Want to make a successful CAREER CHANGE? Quick mindset tip to stop COMPARING yourself to others👉 https://youtube.com/shorts/CIb_2MNMLCo
You’ve probably heard of the saying, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” by Theodore Roosevelt - and it sure is. I’ve struggled with it most of my life. At first, it was school, sports, and looks. But as I got older, I began comparing other metrics: job title, income level, house size, and worldly successes. I have discovered there is an INFINITE number of categories upon which we can compare ourselves and an almost INFINITE number of people to compare ourselves to. And with how flooded we are by social media, it’s easier than ever to constantly find someone “better” to compare ourselves to, which only serves to make us feel bad about ourselves. Once we begin down that road, we NEVER find an end. If you'd like to stop the toxic habit of comparing yourself to others, try the mindset tip in this video today (and make sure you do it intentionally!) Do share this #gentlereminder to anyone who might need to read this right now ❤️
Sometimes, shit can happen and people can be cruel and unjust to us. It can feel like the floor just got pulled away from under our feet and we’re just free falling into an abyss of total darkness, filled with uncertainty and fear. If we fall deep enough, we might even be enveloped into a #mentalbreakdown, making us feel like giving up on life. I don’t want to tell you to just smile and move on, because that is B.S. and unhelpful. Instead, take time to cry, GRIEVE, and heal. Surround yourself with people who really CARE about you, and don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and how you feel. Above all, no matter how apathetic you might feel about anything, try to dig real deep, and do just ONE THING well each day. Just ONE THING at least. It can be making yourself a nice healthy meal, dressing up to go out for a walk, mustering up the energy to sociallze, taking a nice shower, anything. Remind yourself to be compassionate with yourself, give yourself time to recover from your pain/trauma. Allow yourself TIME AND SPACE to slowly feel better with each passing day. It may feel like an uphill battle, but trust yourself that you’ll get there (and feel better) with every baby step you take. Sending all my good thoughts and love your way, Trish ➳ 💙 Want to make a successful CAREER CHANGE? When you’re too ATTACHED to your work, it becomes a major part of your IDENTITY. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, maybe especially if your work is creative. You’re a writer, an editor, a photographer — it’s part of who you are. The danger is in letting it become all of who you are.
We humans tend to link our behavior, our performance, our #productivity, with our #selfworth when we obsess over work. It sounds ridiculous, but when my boss rejected my new filing system, it almost felt like she was rejecting me, as a person. On a larger scale, this level of emotional investment in your work can make the unfortunate event of a layoff even more harrowing. Losing your job can feel like losing your entire identity. Find yourself too emotionally ATTACHED to your work? Try the #strategies in this video now to preserve your sanity. Truly, Trish ➳ 💙 Want to make a successful CAREER CHANGE? 5 Less Obvious Signs Of Burnout14/1/2024 Does any of the 5 subtle signs feel relatable? There’s this feeling I get when I know something is…OFF. When I don’t want to talk to anyone or do anything other than sleep or listen to music.
All I have the capacity for is going to work, but I’m emotionally #exhausted by and disconnected from my job too. That experience has a name: #BURNOUT Some of these signs, were what I was experiencing recently, but I needed someone else—my #therapist—to name it for me. Identifying the signs of burnout early is critical since they can lead to BIGGER problems down the road. Especially when symptoms are subtle, they can add up and snowball often undetected. That’s why it’s so important that we build time into our routines to check in with ourselves and others, and stay attuned to our #wellbeing. Consistent self-check-ins — whether through #journaling, #meditating, working with a therapist, or simply pausing weekly and asking ourselves how we’re doing and answering honestly—can help us notice subtle changes in our #mentalhealth that we might miss otherwise, allowing us to intervene earlier, rather than waiting until things go off the rails. That intervention might look like taking a long weekend off, or saying no to social invitations so you can get some much-needed downtime. Of course, subtle (and not-so-subtle) signs of work burnout may very well mean you need to make a bigger change. If you’re doing what you can to implement #selfcare strategies and you still find yourself regularly exhausted and/or #overwhelmed by work, it might be time to consider finding a job that’s a better fit. Or, if that’s just not possible at the moment, perhaps you can see if there’s another source of #stress you can remove from your life to prevent your metaphorical mental candle from burning out. Some weeks back, I STRUGGLED with feeling #GRATITUDE😶 Even as I say this, I find it totally crazy. Does this mean one is an ungrateful, mean person if we struggle to feel gratitude?
I’ve been a pretty grateful person since a very young age, for all the little #blessings in my life - especially for my life, since I nearly lost it several times due to an abusive childhood. After much deep self-reflection, here are the 4 steps that helped me to feel gratitude again: 1 Take time for #selfcare We can’t feel give or show gratitude when we’re not feeling good about ourselves 2 Identify the mental and/or physical roadblocks How you approach each day and your ability to feel gratitude can be impacted by many different factors, including: * amount and quality of sleep * employment stress * poor diet * interpersonal conflict * relationship challenges * physical illness * financial constraints * #mentalhealth conditions Identify which of these you need to work on and improve. 3 Make gratitude a habit Reaping the rewards of practising gratitude, just like with exercise, comes with regular effort. Keep a daily gratitude list for 2 weeks. Name 3 things you are grateful for in each day and elaborate on what you’re grateful for in at least 1 sentence. If you don't feel better, the habit may require more weeks (roughly 6) to feel an improvement. 4 Feel genuine gratitude Feeling genuine gratitude is about not just saying “thanks” for the sake of it, but actually taking a moment to acknowledge what you’re thankful for and feel gratitude in your heart. Do try these 4 steps if you’re struggling to feel gratitude, have #selfcompassion, and I hope it helps you just as how it did for me🌻 I'm #grateful for all of you who supported me in 2023! Knowing when to continue FIGHTING for what you want vs when to #LETGO and let live is tough, don’t you think?
One might think a person who “lets things be” might be simply lazy or not #determined enough. Though it can be really tricky to know when to continue pursuing a certain #goal and when to let go, here are some questions I reflect on that helps me to make a clearer, objective decision in such moments: 1 Have I been #makingprogress? 2 Have my #priorities in life changed? 3 Has there been a change in circumstances? Eg: Maybe you experienced a #jobloss or health issue 4 Now that I’ve started working on the goal, is it as valuable or meaningful as I once thought? 5 In pursuing my goal, is it negatively impacting my #wellbeing? In order to minimise or prevent feeling guilt or regret down the line, it’s important to take some time to assess any goal you wish to pursue or give up both objectively and fairly. I’d love to hear from you, what helps you to make a clearer decision in such tricky moments when you start to question your goals? Truly, Trish ➳ 💙 Want to make a successful CAREER CHANGE? Do you agree? 🤫 In many companies, STRESS and anxiety, which can lead to BURNOUT, stem from factors like office politics, bickering, gossip and jealousy.
This may be exacerbated by a boss that is busy playing his own political games to ensure his career longevity, at times breaking rules he set, and leaving his subordinates to clean up the mess. Then there are supervisors who, instead of working themselves out of their jobs to give subordinates a chance to move up, feel threatened by good performers and drive them out of the organisation. So burnout is not the product of stressful work. Rather, the stress arises from an unconducive, UNSUPPORTIVE, or even hostile, environment. Employees are more likely to stay if they are happy, do not feel threatened and value the organisation as a place worth working in, where they can grow and thrive. Drop a like if you agree and share your thoughts below if you can relate. Happy Tuesday everyone🌻 Truly, Trish ➳ 💙 Want to make a successful CAREER CHANGE? Overcome The Fear of LOSING Someone You Love, Finances or Possessions | No more Fear of LOSS23/11/2023 The fear of losing a loved one, a pet or even our possessions is a normal human feeling. But worrying too much about losing someone you love or the things that we have can sometimes mean missing the best moments and memories while having them present in our lives. Also, intense and lingering feelings of fear can result in anxiety that doesn’t stop, regardless of how unlikely it is that you’ll lose the one(s) you love.
These kinds of feelings are commonly present in new relationships, as well. New relationships are typically less safe than well-established ones, potentially leading to more intense doubts and fears about the relationship’s likelihood of longevity. There are many reasons why people experience fear of losing someone they love, and those reasons aren’t always easy to identify clearly. There may be remnants from a past relationship that ended poorly, childhood experiences that make it difficult to trust others, fear of change, and more. Regardless of the reasons, there are ways to overcome your fear of losing someone you love and make space for a healthier, more fulfilling time together. Check out this video to learn the 2 tips that have never failed to help me build mental resilience and to #letgo of the fear of loss. Truly, Trish ➳ 💙 Want to make a successful CAREER CHANGE?
